And here is something new to use the Message box for. The Achuff Challenge Incentive is now in effect. This means that in each month, the 1st performer or group to sign up to play a piece from the AGS VOB Library of 20 booklets of music will receive a $20 cash incentive gift from AGS. Just state in the Message box that a piece you are performing qualifies under the Achuff Challenge Incentive. (Click here for info.) This Challenge Incentive is meant to help our players and audience be aware of the marvelous pieces of guitar music that VOB created for her students and AGS members to perform from. AGS Special Meetings

In May of each year, AGS awards the Denner Scholarship to local college students of the classical guitar. AGS invites these Denner award recipients to perform their favorite guitar piece at the May AGS monthly meeting. AGS always delights in hearing and seeing the youth learn the traditions and repertoires of the classical guitar. See our Denner Scholarship Tab for more information on this.

In November of each year, AGS conducts our annual Vahdah Olcott Bickford Competition Event. Eight classical students of ages 8-13 (Junior Division,) and eight students of ages 13 - 18 (Senior Division) sign up to participate and compete for a cash prize. Judges are professors from the local area. This meeting is reserved for competition participants only. The audience is generally filled to capacity and all enjoy hearing these students bring forth their finest efforts on the classical guitar.

In January of each year, AGS often selects a gifted member, or a local professional guitarist to provide what we call a “showcase” performance. The artist is given the 2nd half of the program, generally, 45 minutes, to perform their favorite pieces for the audience. The 1st half of the program is provided by AGS members who have signed up via the normal methods.

AGS takes a summer sabbatical each year meaning that there are no July and August meetings. All other months we welcome AGS members (or prospective members) to sign up and perform at an AGS meeting.
