The next meeting of the American Guitar Society will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. in Music 105, Cal State Northridge. The program is already set, i.e., we're not accepting any more players for March.
Norwegian composer and guitarist Gisle Krogseth will perform, as will some of Gregg Goodhart's students at Servite High School. The students are set to enter a competition in Texas in late March, so they will warm up for that event by performing for us. Some of them played at the February meeting and were very well received. Gregg is doing an amazing job at Servite.
Our series resumes on Saturday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. with lutenist Paul O'Dette. He is recognized as a major international performer. We invited him to play for us again because everyone loved his performance.
The AGS Board of Directors has chosen Erik Schnautz to serve as vice president. He is an accomplished guitarist, having studied with John Schneider and Gustavo Castro, among others. In his real life he is an attorney for Los Angeles County. He lives in Alhambra with his wife, Maria, and their very lively four year old, Andrew. The Board has already put him to work; we appreciate his contributions.
Gregg Nestor's recently released CD featuring compositions by Carlos Atilano and other Latin American composers, entitled Latin American Serenade, is available from Naxos; MP3 tracks are available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Latin-American-Serenade/dp/B00375XKSE/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1265419358&sr=1-19
